Topic: Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine which occurs most often during the growth spurt just before puberty. It affects about 3 million people each year.
For the majority of these people, their scoliosis is mild with few symptoms, however some children develop spine deformities that get more severe as they grow. Severe scoliosis can be painful and disabling. For mild cases, often, no treatment is necessary. Sometimes wearing a brace for several years is required or for more advanced cases, spinal fusion surgery is needed.
